September 10th, 2009 Stewardship Work Group

Theda Baslock, Rick Meader, Susan Bryan, Steve, Drew Lathin (not pictured)

We had such fun! The smooth aster was blooming, along with all sorts of goldenrods. The little bluestem looked gorgeous, along with the Big Bluestem and the Indiangrass. We pulled Canada Goldenrod, Woodsorrel and Honeysuckle. What little Buckthorn is left was removed with a vengeance. And Rick went all artistic and started transplanting plants so that they would be in groups, with a plant label. Very nice.

  1. Rick here,

Thanks very much to the Wild Ones and Arb caretakers (including the head Natural Areas Manager, Jeff Plakke) for your help at the workday. As Susan said, we had a good time pulling weeds, thinning undesirable natives (in this case, Canada goldenrod) and concentrating some desirables in beds for easier ID. The garden is definitely moving forward. If you want to get involved, we have another "fun day" scheduled for October 24, the last of the year. We'll probably be gathering some seed, moving some more plants, and who knows what else. Come and see!
